Common Plaster Wall Repairs
No matter what damage your plaster walls have incurred, we can fix it for you. Whether it’s just fixing a small hole or hairline crack, or you need all the walls replaced, no job is too small or too big for us.

Repair Large Holes
Fixing a large hole in a plaster wall is similar to repairing a small hole, the main difference being that we cut a rectangle hole that’s as wide as the gap between the wall studs. That way we can easily screw the new plaster patch to the wooden studs on either side.
For even larger holes, it may be easier to replace the entire sheet of plasterboard instead of patching it. To replace an entire sheet, two people must lift it into place. Sometimes it may also be necessary to remove the cornice and then re-apply it.

Repair Small Holes
- We enlarge the hole to make it a rectangular shape, so we can fit a plaster patch that’s the same shape.
- We attach new timber or a furring to the inside of the hole, so that we can screw the plaster patch securely in place.
- We apply paper tape to the join. Then three layers of plaster: each must dry before the next is applied.
- Then it’s sanded to a smooth finish so that the repair won’t be noticeable after it has been painted.

Plaster Crack Repairs
To repair cracks in plaster walls we first need to figure out the cause of the crack so we can apply the best solution that’ll prevent it from cracking again in the future.
Possible causes are:
- Excessive expansion and contraction due to temperature differences.
- If the house is moving or sinking, the joints are always going to crack.
- No support behind the joint.
- Rooms with over 3 or 4 joints needs to be back blocked.
- Expansion joints need to be added if there’s more than a certain length of plaster.

Repair Water Damaged Plaster Wall
Repairing water damaged wall plaster can be tricky because we may need to replace more than just the part that is bulging out. Gyprock soaks up water like a sponge and isn’t as strong when it dries out.
We may need to use a moisture reader to check whether there’s moisture still in the plaster. If there is, we may need to wait a few days for it to dry completely, to prevent the new plaster reacting with the moist plaster.

Repair Bulging Plaster Wall
- Plasterboard sheets are installed too close together.
- Plaster incorrectly fixed to the wall frame.
- The house is settling.
- Previous repairs weren’t done correctly.
- It has been damaged by water.
We’ll be able to spot the cause of the damage and apply the appropriate type of repair.

“John’s plastering work was excellent. He had a very professional manner, attended exactly at the time he advised (was even early), and took away all the waste with him (of particular relevance being in a council area where building waste is not allowed in the normal household waste bin). Reasonable price charged even though we were on the smaller end of job size. Highly recommend his services.”
