Common Types of Wall Repairs
We can fix any type of damage to your plaster walls. Whether it’s fixing a hairline crack, a small hole, or you need to replace every wall replaced, we can handle it for you.

Repair Water Damaged Plaster
Fixing water damaged wall plaster can be a bigger job than it first appears because plasterboard absorbs a lot of water and when it dries out it’s usually quite brittle.
We may also need to use a moisture reader to check if the plaster is completely dry. If it’s not, we’ll need to wait a few days for it to dry, to prevent the new plaster reacting with the moist plaster.

Plaster Crack Repairs
The first step when fixing cracks in plaster walls is to determine the cause of the crack so we can apply the right fix, so it won’t crack again.
Possible causes are:
- No support behind the joint.
- Expansion joints need to be added.
- Rooms with over 3 or 4 joints needs to be back blocked.
- Excessive expansion and contraction due to temperature differences.
- If the house is moving or sinking, the joints are always going to crack.

Repair Bulging Plaster Wall
- The house is settling.
- Previous repairs done incorrectly.
- Plasterboard sheets installed too close together.
- Plaster incorrectly fixed to the wall frame.
- Water damage.
We’ll determine the cause of the damage and apply the best type of repair.

Repair Small Holes
- We enlarge the hole to make it a rectangle, so we can fit the same shaped plaster patch.
- We attach new timber/ furring to the inside, so we can screw the plaster patch securely in place.
- Apply paper tape to the joint, and then three layers of plaster. Each layer has to dry before the next is applied.
- We sand it to a smooth finish, so you won’t notice the repair after painting.

Repair Large Holes
For very large holes, it may be easier to replace the entire sheet of drywall rather than patching it. In this case it takes two people to lift the sheet into place and we may need to remove the cornice and then re-affix it.

Repair Plaster Cornices
Is it Plaster, Plasterboard, Drywall, or Gyprock?
Are you wondering what the difference is between plasterboard, plaster, Gyprock, and drywall? Don’t worry, it’s a common question: they’re just different names for the same thing: a sheet of solid plaster covered in thick paper.
- Plasterboard is the most common term used in Australia.
- Plaster is used to refer to the powder that’s mixed with water and applied with a trowel to cover gaps where sheets meet. Plaster also refers to plasterboard.
- Drywall is rarely used in Australia, and is more common in the USA.
- Gyprock is a brand of plaster sheet. It has become so popular that many people use ‘Gyprock’ instead of ‘plasterboard’.
